Experience the vibrant soul of Nepal through a journey that harmoniously blends ancient spirituality, timeless heritage, and rich wildlife. Start in Kathmandu with visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Basantapur Durbar Square, Bhaktapur, Boudhanath, and the serene Kopan Monastery. Then, fly to Nepalgunj and venture deep into the wilds of Bardiya National Park, home to elusive tigers, wild elephants, crocodiles, and over 400 bird species. Enjoy jungle safaris, canoe rides, sunset walks, and Tharu cultural immersion in a region less traveled but deeply rewarding.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu & Basantapur Durbar Square
Be welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport with a traditional garland and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, explore Basantapur (Kathmandu) Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Taleju Temple, Hanuman Dhoka and the Kumari’s residence.

Day 2: Bhaktapur, Kopan & Boudhanath
Visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square with Nyatapola Temple, the 55-Window Palace and Pottery Square. In the afternoon, visit Kopan Monastery for hilltop views, and end at Boudhanath Stupa, where monks chant and prayer flags flutter.

Day 3: Kathmandu → Bardiya

Take a scenic flight to Nepalgunj (approx. 50 minutes), then a private transfer (approx. 2.5 hours) to Wild Planet Eco Retreat on the edge of Bardiya National Park. After check-in, enjoy a late-afternoon walk through Tharu settlements and a sunset, followed by a local organic dinner.

Day 4: Walking Safari
Spend a full day on foot with a local guide through grasslands, Sal forests and riverbanks, learning to read animal tracks, jungle sounds and medicinal plants. Enjoy a packed breakfast and lunch in the jungle, then dinner and stargazing at the retreat.

Day 5: Jeep Safari
Set out on a full-day jeep safari into the park in open-top 4WD vehicles, stopping at lookout points and waterholes to watch for tigers, swamp deer, gharials and birds. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the jungle and return to the retreat by evening.

Day 6: Birdwatching → Kathmandu
Join a gentle early-morning birdwatching walk, with chances to spot hornbills, kingfishers, parakeets and egrets. After breakfast, transfer to Nepalgunj and fly to Kathmandu. Spend the evening at leisure in Thamel for shopping, cafés or a spa.

Q: What is the difference between the walking safari and the jeep safari?
The walking safari is slow and immersive, focusing on tracks, plants, birds and smaller details. The jeep safari covers more ground and offers wider chances to see larger animals.

Q: Is the walking safari safe?

Yes. You walk with an experienced local guide who follows park safety rules, and you must stay with your group at all times.

Q: What should I pack?
Neutral-colored clothing (khaki, green or brown), comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, a light jacket for winter mornings, binoculars and a camera. Modest clothing is recommended for temples and monasteries.
